Rev. Pedro M. Ybarra, 75, passed away on May 18, 2010. He was born on Aug. 1, 1934 in Alice, raised in Banquete, and later resided in Corpus Christi and Albuquerque, N.M., where he lost his long battle with Alzheimer's. He graduated Salutatorian of Banquete High Scholl in 1952. He earned his Bacherlor's Degree from Corpus Christi University and attended Webster College. In May 1977, he was ordained a permanent deacon to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Corpus Christi by the Honorable Bishop Thomas J. Drury.

This being the very first class of deacons. He retired in 1993 from the Corpus Christi Army Depot.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Maximo Ybarra; and his brother, Antonio Ybarra.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lauriana Pena Ybarra; his children, Laura Laidler, Nancy Lemons, Patrick Ybarra and John Ybarra; five grandchildren, seven brothers, three sisters, and many nieces and nephews.
