Shirley Gaither McDonough recently passed away at home with her husband of 12 years by her side.

She was born on April 11, 1935 to J.E. Gaither and Lenora Sowell Sherman in Arkadelphia, Ark.

Shirley was a member of the fraternal order of the Eagles Auxiliary since 1966 and held many offices including district president. She was also a member of the American Legion No. 364 Auxiliary.

Shirley was a homemaker and bookkeeper at Memorial Hospital for over 20 years. Her hobbies included dancing, crafts, collecting clown figurines, South Texas trail rides and harmonizing with her sister.

Shirley became Catholic and was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Violet.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Sandra Marvis.

She is survived by her husband, Pat McDonough Jr.; daughters, Rhonda Driver, of Duvall, Wash., Shirl Magana of Marysvill, Wash., Kathleen McKinley of Corpus Christi; one sister, Phyllis Albers (Henry) of Portland, Texas; niece, Dona Scott; nephew, Walter Norman Nichols; three stepdaughters, Marcie Taylor, Michele McDonough and Shannon Taylor; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held Friday, July 22, 2011 at Memory Gardens Funeral Home Chapel, with a Rosary recited that same evening.

Funeral mass was celebrated on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, with interment following at St. Anthony’s Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers are all members of the fraternal order of the Eagles Auxiliary Men and Women, and American Legion No. 364 Auxiliary Men and Women.
