Billye Bayne Cooke passed away on April 19, 2010. She was born on Oct. 30, 1919, to Thomas W. and Lena Pearl Bilbrey in Dallas. After graduating from Forreston High School, she attended Trinity University and graduated from Texas Women's University, now known as the University of North Texas in Denton. Billye had a career as a teacher and was a pioneer in special education until her retirement. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Corpus Christi.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 56 years, Douglas Cooke.
Billye is survived by her son, Tom Cooke of San Antonio; two daughters, Barbara Meyer (Blake) of Dallas, and Kim Tucker of Corpus Christi; three grandchildren, Thomas Cameron (Theresa), Brad Meyer (Anabel) and Jennifer Tucker; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were privately held on April 20 at Seaside Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First Presbyterian Church of Corpus Christi or the Alzheimer's Association, STAR Chapter, 7400 Louis Pasteur, Suite 200, San Antonio, Texas, 78229-4542.
