Marcus Lamar Smith, 83, of Corpus Christi died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008.
He was born on April 18, 1925 in Batesville, Miss., to Frank E. and Ethel M. Branch Smith. He was self-employed as a masonry contractor for 50 years and a member of the United Church of God.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Smith; daughter, Greta Smith; son, Ricci Smith; parents, Frank and Ethel; three brothers, Morris Smith, Malcom Smith, and William Smith; and sister, Cornelia Jones.
He is survived by his son, Gary Smith; his daughter, Maryln (Jim) Harbaugh, both of Corpus Christi; grandchildren, Becky (Randy) Choat of Kerrville, Philip (Brandy) Smith of Corpus Christi, Amy (Donnie) Lawson of Portland, Amanda Harbaugh of Corpus Christi, and Brandon (Melanie) Harbaugh of Pearland; six great-grandchildren; four brothers, Elliott Smith of Jasper, Ark., Carlton (Beverly) Smith of Solvang, Calif., Marvin (Lucille) Smith of Corpus Christi, and Michael (Sandy) Smith of George West; five sisters, Dorothy (Bob) Merrill of Colorado Springs, Colo., Mildred Kuzniar of Corpus Christi, Lila (Buddy) Witt of Harlingen, Margie Tanner of Grand Junction, Colo., and Rema (Don) Walk of Pasadena; and numerous other family members.
Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, in the Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jack Hendren officiating. Burial followed in Seaside Memorial Park.
