Robert Anthony Thompson, 46, of Corpus Christi died on Friday, Aug. 7, 2009 at his home, with his wife by his side, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.
He was born Feb. 10, 1963 in Corpus Christi. Robert participated in the Connie Mack World Series.
He graduated from Incarnate Word Academy where he was a member of the All State Baseball team, the All State Basketball team, was a Mr. School Wide favorite, voted most handsome, received the Bishop Drury Medal and is in the Who's Who Among American Students.
Robert was a veteran of the U. S. Coast Guard, and was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and River Hills Country Club where he loved to play golf and enjoyed riding horses with his wife.
He was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Walden Thompson and his grandmother, Pauline Cabello.
He is survived by his wife, Annie Thompson; his sons, Justin, Addison and Jon Mychal Thompson; his daughter, Alexus Thompson; his stepchildren, Sheldon, Jade and Bart Allen; his mother, Frances Cabello Thompson; brothers, Joseph Lee (Carol Marie) Thompson, Thomas David (Diane) Thompson and Jon Michael Thompson; sisters, Rose Marie Thompson-Weaver, Patricia Ann (Billy) Delgado, Carolyn Thompson-Farley, Kathryn "Kay" (Keith) Bethel and Angela Thompson-La Fountain.
A Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Funeral Mass was concelebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. Michael Howell, the Rev. Msgr. Richard Shirley and the Rev. Msgr. Roger Smith as concelebrants. Burial will followed in Robstown Memorial Park.
Pallbeares were Mike Thompson, Billy Delgado, Larry Attaberry, Robert McBee, Frank Ulrich, Benny Mota, Rey "Gator" Garcia and John Tamez.
