Fr. Isidore Sitnyeln, 64, died on Thursday, May 14, 2009.

He was born on March 20, 1945 in the village of Wegyl, Irrawaddy, Burma, now known as Myanmar.

Fr. Isidore converted to Catholicism in 1959 at the age of 14. He attended State School Myaung Mye from 1960 to 1964, Saint Joseph Minor Seminary in Rangoon, Myanmar, from 1964 to 1969, National Catholic Major Seminary in Yangon, Rangoon, Myanmar, from 1969 to 1973, and was ordained a priest on March 29, 1973. Fr. Isidore then went on to serve as priest, teacher and rector at Saint Joseph Minor Seminary, Pre Jamro Seminary, and National Catholic Seminary from 1973 to 1986.

Father then attended the Abbye De a Cisterian Monastery in Beliefonteline, France, from 1986 to 1990. He came to the United States of America on Dec. 20, 1990.

Fr. Isidore was assigned to St. Anthony Catholic Church in 1991.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thou Seln and Monica Hla Sein.

He is survived by two sisters, Rosemary Hta Gyi and Cecilia Khin Win; one nephew, and all of his extended family, which includes all of his brother priests, deacons, sisters, laity and all members of the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity.

A Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, May 17, at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, May 18, at St. Anthony Catholic Church.

Interment followed at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery.
