Caddo N. Brooks, 74, of Corpus Christi died Monday, May 5, 2008, at his home after a long illness.

He was born July 2, 1933, in Lawton, Okla. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1948 until 1952. Caddo was in refinery construction, pipeline construction with Adair/Tennessee Pipeline, and started Caddo Brooks Pipeline Co. in 1968. He sold it to Tejas Gas Corp. in the mid 1970s and stayed with Tejas as a senior vice president over operations until he retired in 1988.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thurman Sr. and Gertie Elizabeth King Brooks; his daughter, Sharon Frietag; his brothers, Ricky S. Proctor and Thurman Brooks Jr.; and his aunt and uncle, Bess and Tom McIlmail.

He is survived by his wife of over 55 years, Shirley Brooks; his son, Bill Brooks; his daughter, Sandra (David) Rathke; his brothers, John (Darlene) Mitchell, Billy (Glenda) Proctor and Roger (Pam) Proctor; six grandchildren, Shawnna Bass, Matthew, Chase and Kiersten Rathke, Lance (Teri) Rathke and Cheryl (Danny) Collins; and six great-grandchildren.

A Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, in the Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 8, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. Michael Howell as celebrant. Burial followed at Seaside Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make contributions to the American Cancer Society.
