Gilbert George Hoelscher Sr., 77, of Violet passed away Thursday, June 3, 2010 in a Corpus Christi hospital. He was born Jan. 28, 1933 in Violet to George William Hoelscher Sr. and Annie Bernsen Hoelscher. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a farmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Harold, Damian, Leonard and David Hoelscher; and his sister, Margie Knight.
He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Pat Hoelscher of Violet; his children, Gilbert Jr. (Brenda) Hoelscher of Spring, Edward (Gale) Hoelscher of College Station, Elaine (Gary) Brumley of Orange Grove, Barbara (Joe) Meredith of Bartlett, Tenn., Doris (Fiancee, Scott Geary) Hoelscher of San Antonio, and Gery (Lady) Hoelscher of Robstown; nine grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Annette O'Brien of Miami, Fla., George (Cam) Hoelscher and Charles (Cecilia) Hoelscher of Corpus Christi, Joyce (Charles) Denecour of Kingston, R.I., Evelyn (Paul) Fox of Niceville, Fla., and Cathryn (Travis) Green of Buda; and sisters-in-law, Margaret Hoelscher of Corpus Christi, Mary Ann Hoelscher of Pharr, Annette Hoelscher of San Antonio, and Wanda Hoelscher of Raymondville.
A Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 6, 2010 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Violet. The Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, June 7, 2010 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Violet with Rev. Msgr. Celestine Murray as celebrant. Burial followed in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Violet.
