Jim Masur, 80, of Corpus Christi, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2007.

He was born Oct. 8, 1927 in Lockhart to Ernest Peter and Elizabeth Blanch Masur. Jim graduated from Lockhart High School in 1944, joined the U.S. Navy in 1946 and moved to Corpus Christi in 1949 when he went to work for CP&L, retiring after 38 years of service. He married Shurley Anderson on Sept. 22, 1951.

He was a past president of the Lions Club, organized the Run-in JM 4-H Club, was a past president of the South Texas Trail Riders, trail boss of the Saltwater Trail Ride, past president of the Nueces County Sheriff's Possee, Trustee of the Annaville Volunteer Fire Department, Board of Trustees of the Nueces County Show Barn, Past President of the Nueces County Youth Rodeo Association and member of St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church.

Jim "traveled from Cape Cod to the Pecos, two goat ropings, a barn raising, a wind mill greasing and Padre Island."

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Shurley Masur; his children, Elaine (Mike) Pittman and Jim (Gail) Masur; his brother, Robert "Bob" Masur; and his granddaughter, Kaitlyn Pittman.

A Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, in St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, in St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. Morgan Rowsome as celebrant. Burial followed in Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers were Donnie Watkins, Ronnie King, Mike Landino, Royce Cameron, Mike Clack, Kyle Luckenbach, L. D. "Charlie" Watkins, Buck Delano, Richard Byrne and Jeremy Berry.

Honorary Pallbearers were members of the Annaville Volunteer Fire Department.
