Otto Joseph Boerner, 89 of Granbury died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008.

Otto was born Oct. 28, 1918, in Violet to Herman and Minnie Boerner. He helped with the family farming in the Violet community before serving in the U.S. Army overseas in World War II. Otto received the Purple Heart after being wounded twice on the battlefield and subsequently rescued by his fellow soldiers. Other recognition for his service included a Bronze Battle Star. Otto married and returned to farming where he and his wife of 55 years were active in the church and the Violet community. They later moved to Granbury two years ago.

Otto is survived by his wife, Loretta Boerner of Granbury; son, Don Havelka and wife, Carolyn, of Violet; daughter, Loretta Sherar and husband Doug of Granbury; son, Mike Boerner and wife Jennifer of Austin; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

A Rosary was held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Violet.

Funeral Mass was celebrated at 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Donations may be mailed to American Diabetes Association, Honor Memorial Program, P.O.
