James M. "Jim" Garrison, 69, a resident of Corpus Christi since 1966, passed away on December 5, 2009 from cancer related problems.
He was born in Denver, Colorado on July 31, 1940 to Eugene and Phoebe Garrison and had three brothers. He joined the U.S. Navy in May of 1957 and was honorably discharged in February of 1968. He met and married, Evelyn Kay Stewart. They were wed on September 11, 1965. He went to work at Reynolds Metals in February, 1968 and retired from Reynolds in September of 2000. He became self-employed as a Tax Preparer in 1986, and was enrolled to practice before the I.R.S. He continued in this field until his demise.
A high school drop out, he achieved a G.E.D. while in the service, and attended college part time after the service. He received a Bachelors degree from Texas A&I at Corpus Christi in May of 1977.
He was a member of Real Life Fellowship Church. He was an avid golfer, a member of the National Amputee Golf Association and the South-West Amputee Golf Association. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 364, serving on its Executive Board for the past five years.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, his parents, and his two older brothers.
He is survived by four daughters, Betty D. Stewart of Weatherford, Texas, Linda Stewart, Barbara Bunke and Debra (Jim) Gibson, all of Corpus Christi, Texas; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and his younger brother, Gary of Houston, Texas.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 10, 2009 in the Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens.
