Guillermo "Willie" Hughes Ysasi, 84, passed away on Monday, Aug. 18, 2009.
Guillermo was born in Robstown and has resided in Grand Rapids, Mich., since 1951. On Aug. 29,1953 he married Maria Aguilar Ysasi, who survives him.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, and step grandfather, Leonor Trevino and Dionicio Ramirez, mother and stepfather Aurora (Hughes) and Gregorio Chavez Sr.; and his sister, Ginger Calderon.
Guillermo is also survived by his children, Aurora (Jose) Garcia, Maria Estella (Antonio) Carrassco, both of Phoenix, Ariz., Ruben (Suzanne) Ysasi, Dr. Raul (Kathy C.) Ysasi PHD, Ricardo Ysasi, Raquel Ysasi (Raul) Huerta of Rio Rancho, N.M., Rosenda Montalvo and Rebecca Manning; 37 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Ysasi was a member of the Teamster Local 406, and was employed by Michigan Bakery for 15 years, he retired from Oven Fresh Bakery after 16 years.
Guillermo had a passion for music and reading and he had a uncanny ability to do math in his head, for some one who only knew basic math.
Mass of Christian burial was celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at Our Lady of Sorrow Church with the Rev. Theodore Kozlowski as celebrant.
A Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Ronan-Vanderpool-Stegenga Funeral Chapel. Following the services Guillermo will be creamated, per his wishes. Memorial contributions to Great Lakes Hospice in Willie's name would also be appreciated.
