Simon Lerma Sr., 75, died Monday, May 12, 2008.
He was born in Orange Grove on Oct. 8, 1932, to Jose and Luisa Valerio Lerma. He was a longtime resident of Robstown. He was an employee of D.C. Rachel-Hooper Ford which went to Bob Lacy Ford before becoming Access Ford where he retired after 53 years as a Ford Motor Co. Sales-Master. He served on the parks and recreation board, United Way, The Robstownians and the Robstown Evening Lions Club, and he was a member of the Robstown Businessman Association. In 1970, Lerma was nominated by then-Mayor B.D. Berryman to fill a vacancy on the Robstown City Council. Lerma also served in the National Guard for six years.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Minnie Lerma of Robstown; four sons, Ricardo (Lydia) Lerma, Robert Lerma, both of Robstown, Simon Lerma Jr. of Dallas, and Roger (Yvonne) Lerma of Banquete; four brothers, Basilio (Maria) Lerma, Joe (Irma) Lerma Jr., Carlos (Delia) Lerma, all of Corpus Christi, and Luis (Estefana) Lerma of Mathis; three sisters, Delfina (Albert) Ayarzogoitia, Ramona (Bob) Funderburg, both of Corpus Christi, and Lupe (Joe) Aguilar of Banquete; five grandchildren, Christina Gomez, Melissa, Rick Jr., Robert Jr. and Kendra Lerma; three great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, in the Ramon Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Entombment followed in Robstown Memorial Park Mausoleum.
