Frances Arevalo Figueroa of Modesto, Calif. died at Memorial Medical Center on Feb. 1, 2008, surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Robstown, Frances had lived in Texas until she and her husband, Matias, along with their children, Christoper and Amanda Joann, relocated to Modesto, Calif. Frances worked at Kraft Foods (formerly General Foods) for 30 years in the lab, until an early retirement, due to her illness. Being a grandmother was the most vital role of Frances's life. She lived for her grandchildren. She loved attending their soccer games, baseball games and dance recitals. She adored collecting antique dolls, bears and angels.

Frances is survived by her husband of 41 years, Matias Figueroa; children, Christopher (Priscilla) Figueroa, Amanda Joann (Raul) Soria, Matthew Samuel Figueroa, all of Modesto, Calif.; sisters, Teresa (Antonio) Martinez, of Lee, Ill., Dora (late Gregorio Jr.) Sanchez, and Terry Lopez (David) Bernal, both of Corpus Christi; brothers, Dom (Patricia) Arevalo of Modesto, Calif., Faustino Lopez of Las Vegas, and Rosendo Lopez of Mathis; sisters-in-law, Guadalupe Figueroa of Corpus Christi, Santos (late Enemencio) Cabrera, Jesusa (Libraeo) Pinon, both of Robstown; brothers-in-law, Jose (Mary) Figueroa of Robstown, and Antonio (Hilda) Figueroa of Corpus Christi; and eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Domingo Arevalo; mother, Filomena L. Lopez; and brother, Jose Natividad Arevalo.

Services and funeral were both held on Feb. 6 at Lakewood Funeral Home and Lakewood Memorial Park in Hughson, Calif.
