Wanda Ruth Swink McCown of San Patricio died on Friday, June 19, 2009.
She was born July 27, 1929 in Richland. She graduated from Freer High School in 1946. She earned a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Education from Texas A&I.
Her first teaching assignment was in Falfurrias. After marriage, she taught briefly in Mathis then finished her teaching career at Odem I.S.D. She was a 4-H leader of the San Patricio 4-H Club for 33 years.
She was a long time religious teacher and member of the Legion of Mary at St. Patrick's Catholic Mission.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Reagan and Winnie Hendon Swink; and her husband, Orville McCown.
She is survived by six children, Pamela Forshage of the Philippines, Linda (Gary) Singleton of Kentucky, David (Cathy) McCown of San Patricio, Patricia (Randy) Kelso of Premont, Cynthia McCown of San Patricio, and Mark (Christina) McCown of Illinois; her sister, Joyce (Don) Hendrickson of California; her grandchildren, Bonham Forsage of College Station, Marshall McCown of College Station, Wyatt and Morgan McCown of San Patricio, Nicole, Patrick, Shawn and Mathew McCown of Illinois; a step grandson, Greg (Megan) Singleton; a step great-grandchild, Cameron Singleton; two sisters-in-law, Charlotte Byerly of Corpus Christi and Elaine McCown of San Patricio; and her cousins, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Rosary was recited at St. Patrick's Mission in San Patricio on Monday, June 22, at 7 p.m. followed by a wake. Funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday, June 23, at 10 a.m. with Monsignor Rory Deane as celebrant.
Interment followed at St. Patrick's Cemetery.
