Jesus Zapata, 75, of Alvin died Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at his residence. He was born March 15, 1933 in Odem and was a resident of Alvin for 15 years.
He was a retired employee of Nueces County Drainage Works for several years. In 1996, he moved to Alvin and had been a resident since.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Guadalupe Zapata; parents, Donato and Pascuala Martinez Zapata; daughter, Lola Perez; son, Jesse Vasquez; and sisters and brothers.
He is survived by his daughters, Erminia Olivarez of Alvin; Jane Barrientes (Servando) of Lubbock, Mary Hammons (Jack) of Robstown, and Angie Rodriguez (Armando) of Alvin; sons, Cruz Vasquez (Elveria) of Corpus Christi, Frank Vasquez (Sandra) of Corpus Christi, and Eddie Vasquez (Maria) of Robstown; daughter-in-law, Rosemary Vasquez of Fresno, Calif.; sisters, Janie Perez of Robstown, Caytana Rojas of Euless, Albesa Campos of Holland, Mich., and Emma Garza of Herford; 32 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. with Deacon David Bowman reciting. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, July 4, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with the Rev. Jack Franko, O.M.I. celebrant. Interment followed at Confederate Cemetery in Alvin.
