Dorothy Carpenter Smith, 84, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009.
She was born Feb. 17, 1925 in Colorado City to Silas Paul and Mattie Mae Garrett Carpenter. She married Harold Eudy Smith on May 9, 1943 in Colorado City. He died June 20, 1997 after 54 years of marriage. Dorothy grew up in the Church of Christ and was a former member of Arlington Heights Church of Christ in Corpus Christi and a former longtime resident of Robstown and Ingleside. She was retired from Koch Chemical. Dorothy was a Certified Professional Secretary (CPS), a member, seminar chairman for two years and past president of the Secretaries Association. She was an avid collector of butterflies and anything butterfly related. She had many talents but her best loved were making dolls and quilts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, three sisters, and a granddaughter, Serena Smith.
She is survived by two sons, Roger (Glenda) Smith of Lake Sam Rayburn, and Richard (Gloria) Smith of Ingleside; six grandsons, Greg (Ashley) Smith and Scott (Karen) Smith of League City, Terry (Angela) Smith of Sinton, Jeff (Patricia) Smith, Michael (Beatrice) Smith of Corpus Christi, Dean (Judy) Smith of San Antonio; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, in the Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with Roy Smalling officiating. Burial will follow in Robstown Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
