Gregorio C. "Gollo" Barrera, 82, passed away on March 12, 2011. He was born on March 12, 1929 in Lockhart to Agustin Barrera and Esmerigilda Camargo Barrera. Gregorio started working at Crain's Restaurant in 1946, then at Hasketts Restaurant and Pena's Restaurant. He started his own business, known as Barrera's Fried Chicken, in 1968 until his retirement in 1994. His favorite hobbies included traveling to Las Vegas and Louisiana, singing and playing the guitar. Gregorio had a passion for cooking and especially enjoyed cooking for his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Agustin and Esmerigilda Barrera; his grandson, Sammy Salas; great-granddaughter, Isabella Vasquez; four brothers, Serapio Barrera, Pedro Barrera, Juan Barrera and Ignacio Barrera; and three sisters, Agadita Torres, Guadalupe Gonzalez and Elvira Robles.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Azucena "Tena" Barrera of Robstown; his children, Rene (Velma) Barrera Sr. and Hilda (Arturo Sr.) Salas, both of Robstown; four grandchildren, Rene Barrera Jr., Mandy Barrera Vasquez, Agustin Barrera and Arturo Salas, Jr.; three great-grandchildren, Agustin "A.J." Barrera Jr., Jenna Barrera and Rianna Barrera; and numerous other relatives and friends.

A Rosary was held at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 14, 2011 at Ramon Funeral Home Chapel in Robstown. The Funeral Mass was held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Robstown. Interment followed in Robstown Memorial Park Mausoleum.
