Jose Maria "Chema" Cabrera, 86, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009.

He was born on Jan. 5, 1923 in San Benito to Epimenio and Gertrudis Aguirre Cabrera. He was a member of the Jehovah's Witness Congregation, a lifetime member of the CIO Steelworkers Union, a member of the Senior Citizens Center, and a former member of Padres de Familia. Cabrera was a resident of Robstown for over 47 years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Epimenio Cabrera; his mother, Gertrudis Aguirre; his son, Rosendo Cabrera; and his daughter, Juanita Lopez.

He is survived by his wife, Inocencia P. Cabrera; his children, Epimenio (Rachel) Cabrera Sr. of Robstown, Jose (Esther) Cabrera Jr. of Garland, Josie (Rene) Cueva of Robstown, Mary Trevino of Corpus Christi, Elias Cabrera of Robstown, Ray Cabrera of Austin, Ramiro (Irene) Cabrera of Corpus Christi, Nora (Michael) Wagner of Houston, Rachel (Ted) Castro of Robstown, and Roberto 'Chato" (Elizabeth) Cabrera of Harlingen; 39 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

An evening service was conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, August 18 and 19, in the Ramon Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, in the Ramon Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Robstown.
