Hector Martinez Sr., 49, of Edroy died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008 at his residence after fighting a courageous battle with lung cancer.

He was born Sept. 25, 1958 in Sinton and had been a resident of Edroy all of his life. Throughout his life, he worked at Thorntons Food Store, Odem Auto Parts, and as an EMS and firefighter in Corpus Christi, Sinton and West Columbia. He was employed by Christus Spohn Shoreline, Driscoll Children's Hospital, Doctors Regional and Bay Area Hospital as a lab tech coordinator

He was preceded in death by his dad, Aurelio Martinez Sr.; and his brother, Robert Martinez Sr.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Martinez of Odem; four daughters, Naomi Moreno (Mark), Paula Jeannette Gobellan (Ventura), Toni Danielle Martinez and Vanessa Garcia; three sons, Hector Martinez Jr., Jonathan Garcia and Matthew Garcia; his mother, Sara Martinez of Edroy; four brothers, Aurelio Martinez Jr. (Amelia), Arturo Martinez (Eliosa), Ruben Martinez (Irma), and Gustavo Martinez (Sylvia); four sisters, Jesusa Martinez, Irma Martinez, Elma Ortiz (Ramiro), and Diana Cantu (Toby); three grandchildren, Madysin Moreno, Mark Moreno Jr. and Christopher Gobellan; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Funeral services were celebrated at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, in the Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in the San Pedro Cemetery in Odem.

Pallbearers were Aurelio Martinez Jr., Ruben Martinez, Gustavo Martinez, Hector Martinez Jr., Martin Gonzales and Toby Cantu. Honorary pallbearer was Arturo Martinez.
