Letter to Editor:

The following is a good Up-Dated Summary of a MUC P&L posted 1-17-17 on RealClearJWC FB:

RealClearJWC was finally able to obtain a list of the Income and Expenses (from City of Alice Sources) involving the Operation of the Natatorium (called “MUC”). However, we feel that these Loss Numbers are Grossly Under-Stated because the City of Alice DID NOT include nearly all Expenses in their Accounting.

The Donations ($156,975) covered the Loss until about Mid-Oct. 2016 and then the Donations and Memberships Dried-Up and from that point on the MUC started costing Alice Taxpayers (serious Money).

The following is a SUMMARY (based on City Numbers) of the MUC P&L from the time it Opened (May 2016) thru Dec. 2016.

$158,915 (Total Operating Revenue) Less $377,001 (Total Operating Expenses) which resulted in an Operating LOSS of <$218,086> less Donations (so called “Advertisement”) of ($156,975) which reduced the NET LOSS to <$61,111> to the Taxpayers of Alice (for the total of 8 months Operation). However, we feel that these Loss Numbers are Grossly Under-Stated because the City of Alice DID NOT include about $80,000 Expenses in their Accounting (for this 8-month Period).

Now let’s look at the last 3 Months of the MUC Operation, separately (based on City Numbers) - (Oct. 2016 thru Dec. 2016) and YOU WILL READILY SEE WHY THE CITY CLOSED THE MUC:

$23,659 (Total Operating Revenue) Less $122,522 (Total Operating Expenses) which resulted in an Operating LOSS of <$98,863> Less Donations (so called “Advertisement”) of ONLY ($12,378) which reduced the NET LOSS to <$86,485> to the Taxpayers of Alice (for the last 3 months Operation). However, we feel that these Loss Numbers are Grossly Under-Stated because the City of Alice DID NOT include about $30,000 Expenses in their Accounting (for this 3-month Period).

The Alice City Council Voted NOT to Spend any more Money on the Operation of the MUC then the amount of Income that the MUC generated. Therefore, directing the City Staff NOT to spend any more Money on the Operation of the MUC then the amount of Income that the MUC generated. WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT DIRECTIVE (since the MUC was in the RED before November 1, 2016?

And some MUC Supporters say, “the MUC was making a Profit and there was NO reason to Close it” and we say, "BS".
