CALALLEN — The Calallen Wildcats have their biggest game of the season before them Thursday night.

Calallen is representing the North Zone and is playing the South’s Flour Bluff for the District 30-5A championship at 7 p.m. Thursday in Wildcats Stadium.

However, ahead of that matchup, the Wildcats had a pretty big game as well against Corpus Christi Miller. The final score — a 54-3 decision — wasn’t as important as the significance of the game. With the victory Friday night, Calallen coach Phil Danaher tied Texas coaching legend G.A. Moore for the most career victories in the Lone Star State with 426.

In 2013, Danaher passed the legendary Gordon Wood to become the state’s second-winningest football coach.

After Friday’s win, Danaher said it is simply an honor to be mentioned with coaching greats like Moore and Wood.

"G.A. Moore was a great coach and won a lot of state championships," Danaher said. "It’s great to be in a category with G.A. and Gordon Wood, it is an honor.”
