The game between the Calallen Wildcats and Tuloso-Midway Warriors was far from just another game.

The match-up marked the beginning of District 30-5A North Zone play. Plus, the game offered the Wildcats an opportunity to win head baseball coach Steve Chapman’s 1,000th win.

The Wildcats made good on both. They defeated the Warriors, 7-0, to begin district play with a win. Moreover, they handed Calallen’s longtime baseball coach a historic and memorable victory.

Chapman became the second coach in Texas high school baseball history to reach 1,000 wins. He joins former Lubbock Monterey legend Bobby Moegle, who finished his 40-season career with more than 1,100 victories. Chapman also is at least the 21st coach in the United States to reach 1,000 wins, and has won three state championships with the Wildcats.

The game itself was one-sided with Calallen pitcher Hambleton Oliver throwing a one-hitter against the Warriors.

Offensive, designated hitter Noah Rios was 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Colton Duff was 2-for-4 with two runs and Hunter Nevilles was 2-for-2 with two RBI.
