The Coastal Bend Thunder begins their inaugural season Thursday with four games against the Rio Grande Valley White Wings in Harlingen.
They return to Fairgrounds Field for their home opener on Monday against the Edinburg Roadrunners at 7:05 p.m. to start an eight game home stand.
The team will reveal its new mascot during Monday's game and will have a fireworks extravaganza immediately following the game.
There will also be $2 16-ounce bottles of beer Monday. The team also released some of the theme nights for the 2009 season.
They will have "Two for One Tuesdays" where fans can get two for one tickets, hotdogs and popcorn at all Tuesday night games throughout the season. Wednesdays will be "Family Night," four tickets, four hotdogs and four cokes for $20. Thirsty Thursdays will feature $2 16-ounce bottles of beer and every Friday, Saturday and Sunday kids will get to run the bases after the game.
"We want to keep the prices reasonable," said General Manager C.J. Bauer. "A family should not have to spend $100 or more to see a pro sporting event. Our fans will find our tickets, concession and parking prices more reasonable than any other professional venue in the area.
"We want them to be able to afford to come to a lot of games."
The team just completed training camp and finalized its roster. Bauer said the team is looking very sharp.
"This should be the best team to ever play at Fairgrounds Field," he said. "A large part of our roster have played in MLB organizations, many were drafted and some have a chance to get back up there if they put up the numbers."
Manager Al Gallagher echoed Bauer's statement.
"We have a lot of speed. Dustin Smith, Michael Lewis and Mike Goss will steal a lot of bases, I promise you that," Gallagher said.
The team launched its new Web site, www.coastalbendthunder.com so fans can keep track of the team.
The entire roster and schedule is posted there.
