Calallen's boys and girls were in action at the Calallen High School gym Dec. 5 as the boys faced the Edcouch-Elsa Yellow Jackets and the girls played the Corpus Christi King Lady Mustangs.
The boys beat the Yellow Jackets, 83-66, thanks to the solid offense from the Wildcats that had four players scoring in the double digits.
Freshman guard Deron Belford and junior Scott Ryan scored at least 20 points each - Belford with 20 and Ryan with 22.
Edcouch-Elsa started off on the right foot taking a slight 18-16 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the rest of the game belonged to the Wildcats.
Calallen scored at least 20 points in each quarter after the first. Their defense was also solid giving up just nine points to the Yellow Jackets in the third quarter.
The Lady Wildcats' Amanda Haven scored a game-high 25 points against the Lady Mustangs, but it was not enough as Calallen fell short against Corpus Christi King, 54-48.
Calallen's Valerie Perez also scored in double-digit figures with 13, including three 3-pointers. Both defenses worked to their fullest in the first quarter as the Lady Wildcats and Lady Mustangs were locked in a 5-5 tie after the first quarter.
After dominating in the second quarter and outscoring Calallen 20-9, Corpus Christi King went into halftime with a 25-14 lead.
Attempting to make a comeback, the Lady Cat's held their opposition to just 11 points in the third quarter, but they were still behind, 36-32, at the end of the third quarter.
