The Robstown Cotton Pickers followed their opening week loss to Rio Hondo with much of the same as the Moody Trojans dealt them their second defeat of the season, 39-12, at Cabaniss Field Friday night

“I was proud of the kids’ effort. They played hard and didn‘t give up,” Robstown Head Football Coach Enrique Gonzalez said.

The Cotton Pickers lost their footing early and were unable to get on track as Trojans quarterback Ricky Gonzalez put the Cotton Pickers in a 23-0 hole at halftime. Gonzalez shredded the ‘Pickers’ defense for 130 total yards and three touchdowns.

Robstown would get on the board midway through the third quarter, when defensive back David Vargas returned a Gonzalez interception with 4:02 left to go.

While Omar Elizondo was taking his reps at the quarterback position late in the game, he scrambled for a 58-yard touchdown to make the score 39-12.

“Our guys are young and they are going to stay young every week,” Gonzalez said. “They are going to continue to get better.”

The Cotton Pickers will be in action again next week for their first home game of the season as they take on Refugio.
