The Banquete Varsity Women's Powerlifters recently completed an impressive season that saw them earn individual and team recognition.

In a state meet held March 21 at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, the team placed first in Division 2A, the second year in a row it has won that honor.

The team, coached by Michael Holland and Jennifer O'Malley, consists of Beaonca Jacobo, April Bueno, Gabriella Ramon, Andrea V. Gonzalez and Andrea M. Gonzalez.

In individual contests, the team won a number of first and second place trophies.

Jacobo won first place in the 198 lb. class, Andrea V. Gonzalez won second place in the 123 lb. class, Andrea M. Gonzalez won first place in the 105 lb. class, and Ramon placed second in the 97 lb. class. Bueno placed seventh in the 97 lb. class.

At that competition, Jacobo won second place in nationals in the 198 lb. class and Gonzalez won second place in the 105 lb. class.

Both ladies were nominated to compete on the World Team later this year.

Boys also succeed

This was the fourth year the team has finished in the top three in state for Division 2A, Coach Holland said.
