The Calallen Wildcats fell, 2-1, in Game One of their best-of-three series against the Smithson Valley Rangers on Thursday.

The Wildcats took an early 1-0 lead in the third inning, but a late error in the seventh inning that led to a Smithson Valley score forced extra innings. The Rangers went ahead 2-1 in the top of the ninth following a wild throw to first base from Calallen’s Wyatt Matheson.

Matheson also drove in the only run of the night for the Wildcats, as well.

Following Thursday’s loss, Calallen Head Baseball Coach Steve Chapman said his team would have a “win two” mindset for Friday’s doubleheader.

Game Two of the best-of-three series will be played Friday at San Antonio Blossom, with the game scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. Game Three, if necessary, will be played 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game Two.
