A contractor has been selected for the installation of synthetic grass and turf at the Calallen High School football stadium.

Trustees for the Calallen Independent School District unanimously selected Hellis Construction Inc. for the football field work. In addition, Hellis Construction will resurface the stadium's track.

The contract amount is for $815,145, plus an additional $15,000 since bonds will be used to pay for the project. The money will come from the district's 2007 Series bonds, school officials said.

The stadium is currently in the process of receiving numerous upgrades, including additional seating on the visitors side and new concession areas. The new field turf is meant to allow for more state-sanctioned activities, such as University Interscholastic League band competitions, to take place, while also reducing maintenance costs for the field, school officials said.
