Sports fans will have plenty of options at the Richard M. Borchard Regional Fairgrounds this month, from cagefighting to a deer competition. Other events include pro and college baseball, indoor football, pro boxing, and a Friends of NRA banquet.

The Texas Gulf Coast Deer Competition awards banquet was also Saturday, with several different games and activities for all ages.

The Friends of NRA will return to the fairgrounds for the second year May 15 when they holds their banquet in the Conference Center, beginning at 6 p.m. Last year, the local Friends of NRA raised more money than any other NRA banquet in the United States.

Katana Cagefighting will bring 10 mixed martial arts fights to the Central Pavilion Arena on May 17.

Local fighter Hector "H Train" Munoz will be among the fighters that will battle in the Central Pavilion Arena beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available online at www.katanacagefighting.com.

Adam Villarreal from TapouT magazine will be on hand to check out the fights.

The fairgrounds will host its first professional boxing card May 24 when Steele-Ramirez Promotions and Budweiser present the "Rumble in Robstown," as pro boxing makes its return to the Coastal Bend.

There will be seven fights on the card in Robstown, with many of Corpus Christi's top fighters, including Victor Lares, Ron Guerrero and James Elizalde.

The rumble begins at 7 p.m. in the Central Pavilion Arena.

The card is sponsored by Richard Steele Promotions, which is led by Hall of Fame boxing referee Richard Steele.

Steele has refereed more professional championship bouts than any referee in history, 172, including five Mike Tyson heavyweight title fights.

Steele-Ramirez Promotions will return to the fairgrounds for three more nights of professional boxing on Aug 2, Oct. 18 and Jan. 31, 2009.

The Corpus Christi Beach Dawgs will open their inaugural season May 25 with a big Memorial Day weekend celebration.

The Beach Dawgs are scheduled initiate their season at Fairgrounds Field at 6:05 May 25 and play again at 7:05 p.m. May 26.
