The Calallen Wildcats lost to the Flour Bluff Hornets in dramatic fashion last month, although Wildcat Deron Belford shot a 3-point attempt as time expired to send the game into overtime.
This time around on Feb. 12, the Wildcats did get into overtime and they did beat the Hornets, 58-53, in the final game of the regular season for both teams.
The win crowned Calallen as boys basketball champions of District 31-4A. It's the Wildcats' first district championship since the 2005-06 season.
Jasmine Evans scored a game-high 32 points for Flour Bluff, while Deron Belford led the way for Calallen with 18.
Both Flour Bluff and Calallen advanced to the playoffs, but the Hornets will have to play in the bi-district round.
With the Wildcats winning the district championship with a 9-1 season record, they have the luxury of getting a bye.
Calallen will play its first match in the Area Championship. At press time, it was yet to be determined where the Wildcats will play their first game.
Also advancing to the playoffs were the Tuloso-Midway Warriors, who finished third in the district.
