The Calallen tennis team took second in the District 31-4A meet last week. The Wildcats defeated Alice 10-0 in the quarterfinals and Ray 10-3 in the semifinals before losing the championship to Flour Bluff, 10-7.

The Wildcats were down to the Hornets in the title match, 9-1, but took six straight before Flour Bluff was able to close it out.

“It's just a testament of their will,” Coach Debbie Radford said. “I'm excited. They're a young team and what they've done this year is amazing. We really built some confidence this weekend.”

Calallen and Flour Bluff will advance to the regional tournament. Radford will meet with area coaches to draw for seeding today. The tournament will begin on Friday. Radford expects a tough fight with six of the qualifying teams coming in state-ranked. The winning team advances to the state tournament.
