Banquete found its first district victory following a 62-12 rout of the Hebbronville Longhorns Friday night at Bulldog Stadium.
The Bulldogs offense was ground-ready as they compiled 208 yards in rushing on 25 carries and a total of five touchdowns.
"The line blocked well up front and the backs hit the hole," Coach Kevin Hermes said. “I’m proud of the whole team and their effort tonight.”
The defense started things off as defensive back Ty Jurecek forced a Longhorns fumble and returned it 38 yards to start a streak of 23 unanswered points. The Longhorns weren't able to get on the board until late in the second quarter, making it 23-6 at halftime.
Jurecek had a solid game with an interception and a tackle for loss to go along with the defensive score.
In the second half, Banquete quarterback Ben Benavides ran for all three of his rushing touchdowns and finished the night with 12 carries for 76 yards rushing. He also had 106 passing yards with a touchdown and an interception on the night.
Jacob Gonzalez led the team in rushing as he touched the ball nine times for 106 yards and two scores, including a 58-yard score in the fourth quarter.
Ricky Benavidez also carried the ball four times for 26 yards and a touchdown.
Banquete had 314 total yards on the night offensively, while the defense had two fumble returns for scores.
The Bulldogs return to action next week when the face Santa Gertrudis Acadmey at Javelina Stadium in Kingsville.
