The Corpus Christi Fuel hosted Regal FC at Fairgrounds Field on Saturday, losing the contest, 4-1.
The Fuel had a competitive first half against their opponent, trailing 1-0 at the break. Regal FC took control in the second half scoring three straight goals, one off a corner shot.
Fuel forward Tony Garcia scored the teams only goal in the closing minutes. The game was the second for Garcia in a Fuel jersey. He joins the squad from Gregory-Portland High School and plans to play for the University of Houston-Victoria in the fall.
Coach Patrick Esqueda expressed pride in his team's effort, pointing out that Regal FC, from Houston, carried a few professional players with them. Along with the Fuel, they were one of the founding teams for the Southern Premiere Soccer League.
The Fuel will return to action on Aug. 8 when they travel to face the Houston Hurricane.
