The Calallen Wildcat powerlifting team traveled to Mathis High School Friday and Saturday, winning in every division they entered. The freshmen boys, junior varsity girls, junior varsity boys and varsity girls all came out on top.

The freshmen boys edged out Mathis by one point, 32-31.

Seven members from its squad had top-3 finishes with Jaime Alejandro (114 pounds) and Henry Rivera (super heavyweight) winning in their classes.

Brandon Castillo (148 pounds) scored a second-place finish.

Jordan Hartman (181 pounds), Gabriel Longoria (165 pounds), Steven Rodriguez (super heavyweight) and Eric Sibley (148 pounds) received third place in their classes.

The junior varsity girls beat Mathis and Tuloso-Midway by three points, 29-26.

Calallen had five members with top-3 finishes with three of them finishing in first. Kaley O'Brien (132 pounds), Vanessa Perales (181 pounds) and Cassandra Sanchez (198 pounds) came out on top.

Finishing in second was Rachel Kleine (148 pounds).

A third place finish was awarded to Araceli Lopez (148 pounds).

Winning big were the junior varsity boys' squad. They blew away the competition with 60 points. Gregory-Portland, who finished a well-distant second, had 23 points.

Seven of Calallen's 13 participants won in their classes. In weight class order the winners were Given McClure (114), Kellen Hastings (123), Morgan Cole (165), Nathan Trevino (220), Greg Roussel (242), Chris Molano (275) and R.J, Adame (super heavyweight).

Finishing in second place at the 242-pound class was Michael Damon. Chase Curry finished third at 198 pounds.

The varsity girls edged out Banquete, 32-31. Gaby Gaona (165 pounds) and Meghan Deaver (220-plus) won in their classes.

Gaona was named Most Outstanding Lifter for a second straight week.

Natalie Harvey finished second in the 105-pound class and Brianna Brunner (123 pounds), Shelby O'Brien (181 pounds) and Lysney Lopez (220-plus) had third place finishes.

Next up for the Wildcats is the Seventh Annual Coastal Bend Powerlifting Classic at Calallen High School, Friday and Saturday.

The varsity girls and junior varsity boys will compete on Friday, and the varsity boys, junior varsity girls and freshmen boys will compete Saturday.
