Last week on Monday and Tuesday, the Calallen Golf Teams competed in the District Tournament at the Alice Municipal Golf course.

In a very close contest, the Varsity Girls golf team of Kelly Byerly, Kaitlin Ward, Randi Pollard, Stephanie Barrientos, and Kayce Sanchez won the second place Silver Medals.

After trailing Flour Bluff by 13 strokes after the 1st day, the LadyCats rallied back the second day and finished just two strokes out of 1st place.

This is the second consecutive 2nd place finish for the girls at the District Tournament.

In the individual competition, Freshman Kaitlin Ward played very well, placed third, and won the Bronze Medal.

Meanwhile, in the Varsity Boys division, the team of Scott Hale, Mitchell Murphy, Jacob Larrabee, Brandon Berryhill, and Cory Miller won the District Championship gold medals.

After a very tight competition for the first 27 holes, the Wildcats took charge, beating Flour Bluff and Alice by 18 and 19 shots, respectively, on the final nine holes.

This victory makes the Calallen boys back-to-back District Champs, matching the boys of 1999 and 2000.

In the individual competition, congratulations go to Scott Hale for winning the 31-4A District Championship, shooting even par for the tournament, and to Mitchell Murphy, for placing third, with a 2 under par 69 the second day.

Since 1993 when Coach Presley took over the program, Scott's district championship and Mitchell's under 70 score are both firsts for the Calallen golf team in its modern history of the program.
