The Calallen Lady Wildcats swept the Tuloso-Midway Cherokees, 3-0, at the T-M High School gym. The win Friday improves the Lady 'Cats to a perfect 8-0 in district play. The Cherokees fell to a 5-3 district record.

The Cherokees gave the rival Lady 'Cats a strong first set, with things knotted at 20. But Calallen was able to pull away to take the set 25-20. They'd use that as momentum to grab a 25-18 win in the second set.

“T-M was real good in this one,” Calallen senior Maddie Matula said. “They came out and played way better than last time. I think we came out just as strong and worked really hard.”

For the third set, Calallen started strong with an early 10-1 lead. The Cherokees would try and rally, cutting the lead down to six. But in the end, the Lady 'Cats were just too disciplined to lose their early lead, winning the set 25-16.

"I just love the way we played," Coach Linda Lindsey said. "We talked about being dominant. We talked about taking our offense to a different level and we did that today."

The Lady 'Cats will now look to at taking the district crown with four more games left on the schedule.

Despite the loss for the Cherokees, they are still in the playoff mix as the third place team in 31-4A.

Calallen's game against Ray and T-M's game against Flour Bluff on Tuesday were not available as of press time. Calallen will host Flour Bluff and T-M will travel to Kingsvile on Friday. Both games will begin at 5 p.m.
