The Calallen boys basketball team came into their district opener with a 8-10 record. Fortunate for them, their 60-55 overtime win over the Ray Texans gave them an early 1-0 record in the district standings.

Andrew Beasley sent the game to overtime with a 3-pointer at the end of regulation, to tie the game at 54. The three proved crucial, as it sent the game to an extra period as well as being Beasley's only points of the night.

The 'Cats defense held the Texans to just a free-throw in overtime, outscoring them 6-1 in the period.

Calallen's Chistian Cantu led the team with 14 points, along with Dillon Vaughan who chipped in 12. Cameron Gonzalez hit two 3-pointers in the contest, with Cantu and Beasley each adding one.

The 'Cats traveled to Ingleside on Monday. Results for that game were not available as of press time.

Calallen will host their annual Christmas Classic tournament. Games will take place Dec. 28 and 29 at Calallen High School.

The 'Cats first game will be against Santa Rosa. Other area teams competing include West Oso, John Paul II, Flour Bluff, Alice and Port Lavaca-Calhoun.
