Tuloso-Midway third grader Miles Hellums recently won the Houston Astros Team Championship title at the Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run competition.

Miles, 8, competed in the 7-8 year old division at Minute Maid Park in Houston.

Miles plays for the Oil Belt Little League, and his journey to the title started in March, when he won the all-around champion title at the local competition held at Oil Belt Little League. He advanced to the sectionals held at Whataburger Field in May.

Each level of competition was tougher than the last and, after having a combined score of 696, Miles was crowned the Sectional All-Around Champion in his age division by out scoring 35 other 7 and 8 year old boys from around the South Texas area. His score was compared against the six sectional event winners held in the Houston Astros market area across several states and was one of the top three.

Miles out-scored the other two contestants, one from Temple, Texas and the other from Mississippi with a combined score of 663, earning him the Houston Astros Team Championship title. His score is now being compared against the other Major League Baseball team champions across the country and the top three scores in each age division will be invited to compete for the national title to be held during the Major League All-Star game in Anaheim, Calif.
