Jesse L. Kimmel, 80, of Corpus Christi died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2007, after a lengthy illness.

He was born on June 22, 1927 in Wolf Point, Mont. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a leader in Boy Scout Troop 73, and he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed many camping trips with his son and other scouts. He was especially proud of being able to complete a 50-mile hiking trip in the Colorado Weminuche Wilderness Area with the scouts. Jesse also was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church. He worked as a machinist for Reynolds Metals for 23 years, retiring in 1990.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Lewis Kimmel, who was killed while building Ft. Peck Dam in Montana; his mother, Lydia Shaw; a brother, Pat; nephews, Lucas Kimmel and Timothy O'Graty; and a niece, Catherine Kimmel.

Jesse is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth Gold Kimmel; daughters, Yvonne (John) Laurenson and Susan (Walter) Presley; son, Mark (Carolyn) Kimmel; grandchildren, Jim (Kris), Helen and Lana Kimmel; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27, and the Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, with both services being held at St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church, with the Rev. Msgr. Morgan Rowsome as celebrant. Following the Funeral Mass, burial followed at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Violet.
