The Corpus Christi Beach Dawgs have announced the signings of their first 20 players for their inaugural season in the Continental Baseball League.

Heading the list is right-handed pitcher Brandon Pello, who has experience in the Florida Marlins organization and was acquired by the Beach Dawgs in a trade with the Laredo Broncos of United League Baseball.

Other top signees include pitcher Mark Acirerno, a veteran of professional baseball with the El Paso Diablos, and the former Coastal Bend Aviators and shortstop Mike Estrada, who has experience in the Frontier League.

Additional signings are expected in the next two weeks and include players with Major League Baseball affiliated pro baseball experience.

Murray Wilson, the first year Beach Dawgs manager, is expecting to bring more than 35 players to training camp that commences on May 5 at the RMB Fairgrounds Field.

"We'll put an experienced and talented product on the field that the people of Nueces County will be proud of," said Wilson.

The Beach Dawgs open their 72-game season on Friday, May 23 in Texas City against the Bay Area Toros.

The Beach Dawgs home opener will be during Memorial Day weekend, on Sunday evening, May 25. Tickets are priced at $5.00 on weekdays and $6.00 on weekends and holidays.

The Beach Dawgs plan several season-long, exciting promotions which are family friendly. Details about those promotions will be forthcoming soon.

"Our theme for the 2008 season will be You Can't Afford To Miss Our Fun," said team President Ron Baron. "We plan to provide a very entertaining product both on and off the field, with special themed promotions and most of all, giving an opportunity for kids to enjoy the great game of baseball and get up close to their hometown professional heroes."
