Benito V. Hinojosa, 70, of Plainview died Monday, April 14, 2008 at his residence in Plainview.
He was born May 10, 1937, in Mission to Santos and Concepcion Hinojosa. He married Eloisa Ramos December 5, 1955 in Robstown. He moved to Kress from Robstown in 1960 and to Plainview in 1978. He worked for Excel for 30 years and retired in 2001. He was the pastor of Iglesia Bautista Alfa y Omega in Plainview for 31 years beginning in 1976. He was converted in 1962 in Tulia, baptized in 1962 at First Baptist Church in Tulia, ordained as deacon on Sept. 15, 1968, in Kress, licensed for ministry June 20, 1976 and ordained for ministry on Jan. 16, 1977. The positions held for Caprock Staked Plains Association include president of varones, 1970-1972, promoter escuela dominical 1975-1978, president of companerismo for six terms, promoter of evangelismo for three terms and director of music for one term. He was also active with Prayer Plainview and Pastor's Luncheon Baptist Association.
He is survived by his wife, Eloisa; two sons, Joel (Maria) Hinojosa and Ismael (Leticia) Hinojosa, both of Plainview; three daughters, AnnaBell Mirelez, Rachel (Reynaldo) Esquivel and Ruth M. Hinojosa, all of Plainview; one brother, Santos Hinojosa of Corpus Christi; two sisters, Aurora Nevarez and Amelia Lopez of Robstown; and nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepmother, Ramona Hinojosa; a daughter, Teresa Hinojosa; and son-in-law, Michael P. Mirelez.
Prayer service was held at 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the funeral home. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at College Heights Baptist Church with Pastor Santos Rodriguez and Salvador Bernal officiating. Burial was at Plainview Memorial Park.
