WASHINGTON, D.C.-U.S. Rep. Solomon P. Ortiz last week announced that the Office of National Drug Control Policy has awarded a continuation grant of $100,000 to the Youth Continuum of Care Coalition in Corpus Christi to reduce drug use among young people.
"I'm pleased that the Youth Continuum of Care Coalition will be able to continue its work," Ortiz said. "Keeping children from substance abuse and showing them the bright possibilities that come from remaining drug-free is such important work.
I applaud the coalition for working toward positive futures for all Coastal Bend youth."
The Drug Free Communities Support Program grant is for the period beginning Sept. 30 and ending Sept. 29, 2009. According to the Office of National Drug Control Policy, youth drug use has dropped by 25 percent in the last five years.
