A Corpus Christi doctor resigned his hospital privileges and was fined $2,000 by the Texas Medical Board last month after he failed to provide a required standard of care.

According to a press release from the TMB, Dr. Epifanio V. Dimazana entered into an agreed order with the TMB on Aug. 29 in which he agreed to obtain 10 hours of continuing medical education credits within one year and to pay an administrative penalty of $2,000.

The order was issued after Dimazana resigned his hospital admitting privileges following disciplinary action. According to the TMB, Dimazana was reprimanded for his "failure to meet the standard of care, negligent practice, and lack of diligence on two occasions when he was unavailable or did not respond to attempted contacts by hospital staff concerning the admission of patients who had presented at the ER."

During its two-day meeting in August, the Texas Medical Board took disciplinary action against 48 licensed physicians throughout the state of Texas.
