The Calallen Middle School conducted the campus Spelling Bee on Monday, Feb. 2.
Thirty-six students qualified from class competitions to participate at the Campus Competition. The sponsor, Shelley Lamb, organized the campus Spelling Bee competition, which is affiliated with the "Scripps National Bee." Judges were Letha Dunham, Roseanne Meyer and Brenda Cuvelier.
The competition went 20 rounds and ended with Gabriela Diaz spelling the winning word "commissioner". The alternate is Jill Howell and placing third is Jacob Reinhard.
The winner will represent CMS at the 56th Annual South Texas Regional Bee on Saturday, February 28, at 8 a.m., at the Ortiz Center.
