The Lowdown: The Wildcats looked strong against LBJ, especially running back Devin Bisby, who carried 20 times for 179 yards and three touchdowns. G-P showed it isnít one-dimensional on offense, as quarterback Brandon Gonzalez went 13 of 21 for 162 yards, including a 26-yard scoring pass to Devante Cooks. The Coyotes got off to a strong start against Alexander, offensively and defensively. Alice scored three times in the second quarter, including two touchdowns by quarterback Oscar Resendez, who finished with seven carries for 104 yards. He also passed for a score on a 40-yard screen pass to Robert Ramos. Defensively, the Coyotes held Alexander to only four first downs and 83 total yards, including minus-13 on the ground.

WESLACO EAST AT CALALLEN

The Lowdown: Calallen is off to a hot start following last week's blowout in the Rio Grande Valley. First-year quarterback Derek Scheible passed for 147 yards to go along with 50 yards and a score on the ground. He was one of five different players to score a rushing touchdown along with Chris Price, Robert Maldonado, Sheldon Metoyer and J.D. Johnson. The Wildcats allowed nine first downs and 169 total yards while also recovering a fumble and picking off a pass. Kade Yound led the effort with nine tackles, followed by Austin Revels with eight stops. First-year Weslaco East quarterback Brandon Hernandez rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown last week, while running back Saul Cuellar had 130 and two scores.

MILLER AT TULOSO-MIDWAY

The Lowdown: Miller quarterback Tyrell Clay commands the offense, which was evident last week. The senior rushed for 48 yards and a touchdown and also passed for 140 yards and two scores. Fernando Vela rushed for 141 yards. The Warriors showed flashes of improvement against Sinton, but not enough consistency. Sophomore ball carrier Matthew Dickson led the team with 78 yards on 13 carries, while Mac Reyes had 53 yards on 12 attempts, including a score. Reyes also returned the opening kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown.

ORANGE GROVE AT RAYMONDVILLE

The Lowdown: The Bulldogs opened the season with a bang, taking a 33-0 halftime lead to set the tone. Quarterback Ruben Lopez rushed for two touchdowns and passed for another. He scored on runs of 42 and 7 yards and also hit Rayce Gatlin on a 27-yard touchdown strike. Running back Ricky Martinez added three touchdowns for Orange Grove, the first on a 26-yard scamper.

ARANSAS PASS AT ROBSTOWN

The Lowdown: Victor Gonzalez rushed for 95 yards and a touchdown for Aransas Pas last week, while William Butler had 89 yards and a score. The Cotton Pickers faltered against Miller, but trailed only 7-0 late in the first half. Robstown managed only five first downs and finished with 89 yards on the ground and 86 through the air. Sophomore quarterback David Molina led the Cotton Pickers to their only score, a 65-yard touchdown pass from Molina to Jason Mungia.

FALFURRIAS AT FREER

The Lowdown: The Jerseys had two ball carriers break the 100-yard mark, Marcus Cortez and Alex Infante. Cortes finished with 13 carries for 140 yards, while Infante had 12 for 117. Gilbert Alegria added five carries for 72 yards. The quarterback, Infante also completed six passes for 170 yards. The Buckaroos are feeling confident after last week's triumph. Freer had 10 players with at least one reception and seven different players found the end zone. The offense piled up 368 total yards, including 221 on the ground. Quarterback Junior Cadena went 19 of 26 for 147 yards and four touchdowns with on interception.

SAN DIEGO AT†AUSTIN EASTSIDE MEMORIAL

The Lowdown: Hobbled by a tender hamstring during the preseason, San Diego running back Luis Lopez was in top form against La Feria. The senior carried 22 times for 284 yards and three touchdowns, including a 66-yard scoring jaunt that put the game out of reach. The Vaqueros also showed some burgeoning versatility on offense with quarterback Michael Lichtenberger going 5 of 10 for 129 yards. Eastside Memorial didn't have much success in its return to varsity football. The Panthers finished with nine first downs and 203 total yards, 176 of that rushing. Quarterback Trey Mesa and running back Keith Williams combined to rush for 134 yards. Memorial gave up 473 total yards to St. Andrew's, but turned over the ball only once.

HEBBRONVILLE AT BEN BOLT

The Lowdown: The Longhorns hope to recover against Ben Bolt after allowing two 100-yard rushers against Falfurrias, which piled up 406 yards on the ground and 576 total yards. The Badgers took advantage of five Agua Dulce turnovers last week, four fumbles and one pick. Running back Rudy Lopez led the way with 24 carries for 120 yards and three touchdowns. Fellow ball carrier Ivan Gonzalez added 74 yards and two scores on three carries, one of those a 66-yard scoring run.

JOHN PAUL II AT BANQUETE

The Lowdown: The Centurions finished with 193 total yards against Taft, 173 of that coming on the ground. John Paul fumbled four times, losing two. The Centurions took advantage of five Taft turnovers (three fumbles, two interceptions). Zach Gatlin led the team with 12 carries for 110 yards, including a 77-yard scoring run. Banquete looked impressive against Mathis, especially on defense. The Bulldogs forced nine fumbles, recovering four, and intercepted three passes. Jacob Gonzalez torched the Pirates for 181 yards and four touchdowns on 11 carries. Three of his scores covered at least 26 yards.

AGUA DULCE AT BLOOMINGTON
