With Cottonfest fast approaching, volunteers met recently to plan out this year's Cottonfest Queen's Pageant, which will take place on Oct. 6.

“We've made a lot of progress this year on the pageant,” Cottonfest Pageant Coordinator Paula Wakefield said. “We are targeting all of the areas in Nueces County.”

The pageant committee is using the basic platform for competition as last year, with the addition of a talent portion to the pageant, and the removal of the Little Miss Cottonfest category.

Wakefield said there has been a lot of cooperation form volunteers in pageant preparations, and the committee is looking forward to receiving additional help in the coming weeks to make sure that this pageant continues in the Cottonfest tradition.

A special guest again this year is the reigning Miss Texas USA Alexandria Nugent, which will add to the excitement of this year's event.

“We're so excited to have this part of the process, so that she will be a role model for these young ladies who are aspiring to have a direction in their young lives as they grow older,” Wakefield said. “Hopefully, we can make a difference as well and, in coaching and giving a little bit of advice.”

Queen's Pageant registration packets are available at Robstown City Hall and at the Robstown Area Development Commission. The deadline to sign up is Sept. 21.
