Tuloso-Midway did its best to keep up, but Port Lavaca Calhoun managed to keep the Warriors at a distance in a 47-21 victory on Friday.

The Sandcrabs improved to 2-0 in District 30-4A and 5-0 overall, while T-M dropped to 1-1 and 3-3.

The game remained scoreless after the first quarter, but Calhoun’s Brandon Smithwick scored consecutive touchdowns in the second to give the Sandcrabs a 14-0 lead. The Warriors answered with a 34-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Caleb Rozypal to running back Tyler Smith, which cut the deficit to seven points.

However, Calhoun quarterback Hunter Boerm scored on a 4-yard run just before halftime to put the Sandcrabs in front 21-7. Calhoun outscored T-M 26-14 in the second half to keep the Warriors from making a comeback.

Rozypal finished 8 of 13 for 111 yards, including the touchdown to Smith, who finished with three catches for 57 yards. Smith also carried 10 times for 39 yards and returned a kickoff 86 yards for a score.

Running back Matthew Dickson had 10 carries for 34 yards, while Mac Reyes added 19 yards on six carries, including a 2-yard scoring run.

Boerm carried 18 times for 125 yards and three touchdowns for Calhoun. Jakorious Williams added 10 carries for 135 yards and a touchdown, while Smithwick finished with 49 yards and two scores.
