To round out Cottonfest this year, organizers are bringing the show inside, as the Cottonfest 2012 Carshow Shootout will be an indoor event at the Richard M. Borchard Regional Fairgrounds in Robstown.
Sam Segura, organizer for this year's event really saved the event for Coastal Bend Car enthusiasts. A avid car show participant himself, Segura at first was unable to take charge of organizing this year's event. But following a Cottonfest Committee meeting, he stepped forward to make sure the event would once again be a success.
“He's been coordinating them for the last four years,” Segura's wife, Josie Segura said. She has a strong hand in organizing for Cottonfest herself, coordinating the annual Cottonfest parade.
“He knows what it takes to pull off a quality car show. We've been getting phone calls from interested parties from all over Texas. We'll have attendees from as far away as Laredo this year,” Segura said.
This year, organizers have doubled the number of categories, opening up the show to a wider variety of car show enthusiasts.
The categories include under construction, lowrider, classic, hotrod/muscle, truck, radical, bike, import, domestic and luxury. Specialty awards include best of show, best custom paint, best interior, best wheels, best suspension setup and best engine bay. There is no entry fee for the car show, and there will be free live music and plenty of vendors to serve the public. There will also be entertainment for the kids.
On Sunday, set-up time will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with show time from noon to 6 p.m. Judging will start at noon, with awards being given at the end of the show.
