CORPUS CHRISTI -- Ray jumped out to an early lead en route to a 43-28 win over Alice at Cabaniss Multipurpose Stadium on Friday. The Coyotes dropped to 1-2 in District 31-4A and 3-3 overall, while the Texans improved to 3-0 and 5-1.

Tied with Flour Bluff for first place in the standings, Ray scored the first 21 points of the game, including passes of 76 and 90 yards for quarterback Marcus Mosley to Ben Brooks. Mosley finished 13 of 24 for 330 yards and four touchdowns through the air. He also carried 14 times for 78 yards and two scores.

Brooks, meanwhile, finished with three catches -- all touchdowns -- for 186 yards.

Alice didn't score until the 10 minute, 44 second mark ofthe second quarter on a 29-yard run by quarterback Oscar Resendez. The Coyotes scored again less than three minutes later when Resendez found Lupe Leal open for a 9-yard scoring strike that brought Alice to within 21-14.

The Texans picked up a safety right before halftime and then scored twice early in the third quarter on two more touchdown passes by Mosley to take a 36-14 lead.

Resendez scored again, this time from 38 yards out, with 6:23 left in the game. He connected with running back Robert Ramos on the two-point conversion pass, cutting the deficit to 36-22.

Mosley, however, responded with a 5-yard scoring run with 1:43 to put the game out of reach.

Resendez finished with 16 carries for 56 yards and two touchdowns, while Ramos had 18 carries for 76 yards. Resendez also went 9 of 21 for 109 yards through the air.
